The staged scenes in this project represent turning points, decisive moments in a relationship, each image is a fragment of a larger story, where significant decisions are just about to be made or have just been made. All of these situations define moments where verbal communication is no longer possible or necessary. Drawing on familiar narratives and using a cinematic aesthetic, I wanted these images to explore the intimate and silent tension, which can exist in relationships.

Unlike Crewdson’s theatrical ‘American Gothic’ approach, my images, though constructed, owe more to the Dogma aesthetic. Using minimal and available light, they are intended to look familiar – to look like a still from a film we have all seen.
